A stone lithograph c.1969 by the late Alaskan artist, Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) entitled "Moose Tracks!" The work depicts Les Bugbee, an old Sourdough who preferred a stocking cap rather than a fur hat; he lived by a lake about ten miles back of Willow where he hunted, trapped, and fished. He had been in Alaska for almost sixty years and the artist was snowshoeing with Les one day when they happened upon some moose tracks. Although most old Sourdoughs are depicted with a fur hat, Les liked a stocking cap, which made it much easier when taking off or putting on his parka, and the white cloth covering on his parka served to camouflage him against game. The mountain background, one of the artist's favorite scenic areas, is Nelchina Glacier off the Glenn Highway near Eureka Summit. Titled lower left, marked Edition-100, and hand-signed in graphite lower right. Matted within a black frame measuring approximately 21.5" x 25.5" overall overall; sight view of 14.5" x 18.5". A small bit of debris is inside the frame as photographed.
