Alaska Premier Auctions & Appraisals is pleased to present the June 2026 Premier Auction! Highlights of this auction include a group of important 19th-century Alaska Native masks, led by a polychrome-decorated Yup'ik animal spirit mask dating to circa 1875 and comparable to an example housed in the Sheldon Jackson Museum, alongside a Point Hope example with warm, smiling features and labrets; paintings by three members of the celebrated "Alaska Four," including a fine Sydney Laurence nautical scene, numerous Eustace Ziegler portraits and an alpine mining camp landscape, and multiple works by Jules Dahlager; and a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air restomod showing approximately 7,000 miles. Collectors will find a group of significant graded comic books, including X-Men #1 (CGC 3.5), Giant-Size X-Men #1 (CGC 5.5), Amazing Spider-Man #50 (CGC 8.0), Marvel Spotlight #5 (CGC 4.0), Daredevil #1 (CGC 3.0), Silver Surfer #4 (CGC 9.0), and others; objects from the collection of Dr. Henry Bascom Collins, Jr. (1899-1987), the pioneering Smithsonian Institution anthropologist whose work helped establish the chronology of Arctic prehistory and Bering Strait cultures; and a remarkable body of work from the Bruce Beasley Foundation, including a nearly seven-foot double crooked beak mask by John Livingston, a Dzawada'enuxw crooked beak mask by Stan Hunt III, a 19th-century Haida canoe model, numerous portrait masks, and other important Northwest Coast works. Further highlights include an original Bob Ross-painted gold pan; a large narwhal tusk; big game and fish taxidermy including a juvenile polar bear, brown bear, black bear, and bull moose; fine jewelry featuring an Oscar Friedman sapphire pendant, gold nugget examples, and a sizable diamond ring; and a large James Kivetoruk Moses painting depicting an umiak sailing scene. A significant collection of Alaska Native basketry ranges from entry-level examples to museum-quality works and includes Aleut rye grass, baleen, spruce root, walrus gut, and willow root forms. Additional ethnographic material includes an important pre-contact North American anthropomorphic stone effigy; several Nome Gold Rush-era scrimshaw cribbage boards attributed to Happy Jack; and an impressive collection of carvings by Brian Kulik, Teddy Mayac, Ron Apangalook, John Pullock, and many others. Also offered is a monumental early 20th-century Billy "Billiken" Komonaseak scrimshaw walrus tusk cribbage board, surpassing comparable examples held by the University of Alaska Museum of the North and the New Bedford Whaling Museum in both scale and execution. Original paintings by Scott McDaniel, Ernest Robertson, James Belcher, Byron Birdsall, Harvey Goodale, Joan Kickbush, Norman Lowell, Alex Combs, George Ahgupuk, and others complement a diverse offering of Alaska Native artifacts and 19th-century objects including carvings, utilitarian tools, a published hunter's belt pouch, a fine umiak model, several kayak models, a bird dart, ice fishing poles, smoking pipes, and more. Rounding out the sale are gold coins, natural history specimens including ancient megalodon teeth, fossil walrus tusks, a large section of mammoth tusk, and a sizable grape agate specimen, as well as a 140-piece Wallace Grand Baroque sterling silver flatware service. Everything opens at only $5! We hope you can join us on June 28th for an unforgettable auction experience.
